In order to grow a company you must first grow your teams. Depending on the size of said company, how you go about doing this can vary greatly. Fortunately, with that in mind you as a colleague, be that senior or junior, have a capacity to shape that growth.

We’ve seen companies become more and more transparent over the years with their hiring strategies, attempting to woo you with not only shiny cheques but non-trivial culture adds in the form of remote work policies, ping-pong tables and everything in between.

Whether you follow the proven guide rails of Netflix, hiring only the best of the best (read: seniors only), or perhaps stick to the tried and true methods of industry, one thing is certain, growth is a ball of momentum, if it stops you die.

Starting from the ground up, we should turn our eyes to juniors. Whilst yes there is an abundance in relation to the levels of experience in the market, you can teach someone to code yet you can’t teach someone to care. For the past 3 years I have been actively mentoring and educating junior developers from zero to hero, successfully placing many in roles today.

Come along to Empowered Employees | Starting from the ground up, to hear how in-between balancing the mental load of product engineering, we can ensure we stay empathetic to the tangible and intangible needs of our colleagues, in order to build the best teams for not just now but the future.

DDD Brisbane is a non-profit community event run by developers for developers. Anyone can submit a session to the event and delegates then vote on the sessions they want to see.
